Tempe, Arizona's Big Surf is now closed for 2009...and may not reopen for the 2010 season!

In the slide show above, you're looking at pictures of the Big Surf water park in Tempe (greater Phoenix,) Arizona. Big Surf, a pioneer among modern water parks, celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.

However, there's sad news! Golfland has NOT renewed its lease to run Big Surf! The future of the park for 2010 is uncertain. The rest of this page is no longer valid, because the park will either get new managers or will be torn down. (Let's hope not!) The pictures and info will remain for now as a reminder of the fun we've all had in past years at this terrific Arizona water park.

40th anniversary savings at Big Surf mean BIG savings!

Full price admission to Big Surf costs $26 for adults (and by "adults," the park means anyone over 48" tall.) Price for kids (guests under 48 inches) is $19.50. So, if you pay full price, you're going to spend over $90 to enjoy a day at the water park. Yikes! But don't worry---there are some really good ways to cut your costs.

1.) It's Big Surf's 40th anniversary this year---and YOU get the presents! The water park is offering a huge special in honor of its birthday, and all you need is your own home printer to take advantage of it.

The Big Surf 40th Anniversary Special: This super-discount price can get you into the park for only $10 per person! Amazing...yes! So, what's the catch? There are a few restrictions. (a.) You have to entering Big Surf after 2 pm on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. (The special is NOT good on weekends.) (b.) You can only get this price if you have 4 or more people in your party. And, (c.) you can ONLY get this special online, not at the Big Surf ticket booths! So, by planning ahead and purchasing your tickets at home before you go, you can save some really MAJOR bucks!

2.) Big Surf has an early-bird season pass price every year. This year, that price was $69 and was available at Fry's grocery stores. However, that promotion ended June 7th. Meanwhile, you can still get a Big Surf season pass for $119...and, if you're a frequent water park visitor, you'll still save money in the long run.

3.) Evening admission discount: If you don't want to spend a full day at Big Surf, you can get an evening admission ticket for only $19.99 (which is valid for entries at 3 pm or later any day of the week.)

4.) Big Surf email newsletter specials: If you love water parks, the one thing you absolutely MUST do is sign up for Big Surf's online newsletter. You'll get news about the park's latest discounts delivered directly to your inbox (along with news about special events going on at both Big Surf & its sister-park, Golfland/SunSplash.) An example of 2009 newsletter savings was the promo code EBLAST which allowed visitors purchasing adult tickets online to only pay "junior" prices! 5.) Merchant coupons and promotions: Keep your eyes peeled for Big Surf coupons being given away at stores or restaurants. These are never promoted on the Big Surf website, but sometimes you'll find them anyway. For the summer of 2009, Subway restaurants have been passing out a coupon for Big Surf. It's good for $5 off each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday admission (or $3 off each Friday or Sunday admission; no discounts given on Saturdays.) One coupon can be used for up to 4 people...so the coupon has a maximum value of $20. Keep & hold your coupon if you find one...because once they're gone, they're gone. Yet, if you do find a coupon, you'll be able to use it all the way through the end of Big Surf's operating season for 2009!

What dates and hours is Big Surf open?

Big Surf in Tempe, AZ is a seasonal waterpark. Every year, it opens to the general public on Memorial Day and closes on Labor Day.

JULY, 2009 Big Surf hours of operation:

Every day in July, 2009, the Big Surf water park of Tempe, AZ is OPEN! Every day of the week, Big Surf's opening time is at 11 am and its closing time is at 6 pm.

AUGUST, 2009 Big Surf operating hours:

During August, 2009, the Big Surf water park will only be open daily between Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 9th. Since this is the last full week of Big Surf's operation, be sure to get to the park while you can!

Beginning with Monday, August 10, 2009, Big Surf will be closed on every weekday in August; that is, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Out-of-state vacationers may think this is odd. Why is a water park closed on hot summer days? Well, sad to say, kids in greater Phoenix actually start back to school this early!

Don't worry, though--Big Surf stays open on weekends in August! Every Saturday in August, 2009, Big Surf will open its gates at 11 am and close at 6 pm.

SEPTEMBER, 2009 Big Surf hours: For the dates of September 1, 2, 3 and 4, Big Surf will be closed. On Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th, Big Surf's opening time is 11 am and its closing time is 6 pm. For the Labor Day holiday, (Monday, September 7th) Big Surf opens at 11 am and closes at 6 pm...so that students may enjoy their school break time!

Labor Day is the last day of Big Surf's operating season. Be sure to get in on the fun---while you still can!
