What is the Elitch Gardens Fright Fest?
Fall festival for families? Or, scary thrills? It's BOTH!
As you can tell from the slide show pictures above, something very scary gets brewing at the Elitch Gardens theme park every Fall. What's it all about? Autumn is Fright Fest time at Elitch's!Daytime events are non-scary, and geared towards families with kids. Pumpkins and hay bale decorations, trick-or-treating, cute costumes on adorable kids...THAT'S what daytime fun is all about at Elitch's. But, after 5 pm, watch out! Monsters and ghouls come out from their hiding spots. Fog and eerie lighting flows among tombstone-littered fields. Haunted houses open their doors to the very brave. It's time for the "fright" part of Elitch's Fright Fest to begin!
Daytime Halloween family fun: what activities can you enjoy?
Daytime at Elitch Gardens is filled with the sound of fun and laughter, not shrieks. Kids are the focus of the fun family attractions offered every Saturday and Sunday of the event. Here's the list of this year's Halloween activities for kids:
1.) Trick or treat trail! Perhaps the most popular event for kids and their families is the Elitch Gardens trick or treat trail. If you'd like to enjoy this activity, head to the kiddie section of the park...which is re-named "Scaretoon Studios" for Fright Fest. Kids will enjoy getting candy and/or healthy snacks at a number of treat-stations. Along the way, families can enjoy the cute, colorful decorations of fall....bright orange pumpkins, bales of hay, and some not-so-scary "cobwebs," to name a few. 2.) Pet costume parade! One special costume event during the Halloween season at Elitch Gardens is the Fright Fest Pet Parade! Bring Fido...in a fun costume, of course...on Saturday, October 8th to get in on the fun. 3.) Special "White Noise" live show-- Features slightly-scary Halloween fun for kids 4.) Ghouls Match contest; Kids compete in a variety of Halloween-themed stunts and activities! 5.) "Face Your Fears" and "Gross Out for Kids": Two kid-oriented Halloween activities with a creepy twist to them 6.) Elitch Gardens rides ARE open during Fright Fest: If you don't have kids, don't worry about being bored at Fright Fest. All of Elitch's terrific roller coasters, rides and attractions will be open!
Nighttime is Frighttime at Elitch Garden's Halloween Event
At 5 pm, the Elitch Gardens Halloween fun veers away from pumpkins, treats and costumes...and heads in a more sinister direction. Ghouls begin to roam and eerie fog appears. It's time for the "Fright" part of Elitch's Fright Fest to begin! What attractions can you "enjoy?" The list of attractions for 2011 is as follows: 1.) Haunted Houses; and extra fee event: Elitch Gardens does not charge a separate "special events" ticket to come to Fright Fest. (Your regular daytime admission ticket or your season pass is all you need for admission.) However, the park's haunted houses do charge a small admission fee to enter.
The themes of this year's haunted houses are "Blood Bath," and "Brutal Planet." Haunted house ticket prices are as follows: Elitch's haunted houses cost $6 for one or $10 for both. If you go on a very busy night, there may be a long line. For that reason, Elitch's offers a Haunted House Front of line pass: for $25, you may visit both of the 2 houses, plus walk right in with no waiting.
2.) Scare Zones: Three different types of monsters are waiting to get you! Watch out---Moss monsters, haunted scarecrows, and chain saw maniacs are all waiting to get you! (Although the ghouls and gremlins will start making their rounds in late afternoon, be sure to stay until it gets nice & dark if you wish to enjoy the park's scare zones at their very eeriest, creepiest best!) 3.) Wheel of Misfortune: Spin the wheel for a chance to see what gross-out type of thing you have to eat. Unbelievably, some people actually WANT to do this! For further info about this year's activities, here's the Elitch website's Fright Fest page.
