Arizona Costume Stores
Find a costume for Halloween or other masquerade occasions
In the slide show above, you're viewing pictures of some fun costumes which were sent in by readers (when we used to hold costume contests.) Are you ready to do some costume shopping yourself? This page can help you find costume stores close to you.
Costumes stores in Arizona
Year-round stores vs. Halloween shops; which do you need?
Do you have an adorable toddler you plan to dress up in a costume this Halloween? Or, are trying to dress YOURSELF scary enough to send OTHER people's toddlers screaming in fear when they ring your doorbell trick-or-treating?
No matter what disguise you're planning for yourself or for your family this Halloween, you'll need a costume store to help you fulfill your plans.
There's good news for you---Arizona has plenty of costume shops! Of course, it greatly helps if you live in (or are visiting) greater Phoenix or Tucson. Those who live in Arizona's smaller cities will have a limited choice. Some areas don't have a large enough population to support costume or party stores, and chain stores like Walmart and Target (as well as grocery markets and drug stores) may be the only places selling costumes in these areas.
On this page, though, we'll concentrate on Arizona costume specialty stores which make costumes a major focal point of their businesses. Some...like Party City...are general party supply stores. Year-round, you can find items such as invitations, decorations, and themed tableware (paper plates, cups, napkins, etc) that will give any party or special occasion an extra pizazz. During September and October, however, these stores add special costume sections...and the selection you find there will be completely sufficient to outfit your whole family in Halloween gear. Just as long as you stick with popular costume styles, that is...because several aisles' worth of costumes can't provide the range of styles or sizes of costumes that a specialty store can offer.
One "step up" above this type of costume display are the Spirit Halloween Stores and other temporary costume stores. Many of these, like the Spirit Halloween company, are full-time, year-round costumers...BUT for most months of the year, they offer their costumes on-line only. During September and October, Spirit Halloween Stores (and the others like them) pop up in vacant retail spaces throughout Arizona and the USA. If you're familiar with the Calendar Club...which sells calendars in temporary seasonal stores & kiosks every Christmas time, then vanishes every January...then you'll get an idea of what the Spirit Halloween Stores are trying to do.
And still one "step up" further are the year-round, dedicated costume stores. These are generally one-of-a-kind stores (not "chain" stores) that thrive full-time by bringing the public costumes for any and all occasions. This includes costumes for community dramas & pageants; Renaissance festivals; Santa Suits, etc. By heading to a year-round costume shop, you'll find the fullest range of costume sizes and types that are available. On this list, ONLY year-round Arizona costume stores which have their own websites have been included. This is so that you can see what the store offers before you waste your time driving there...only to find that the store doesn't carry what you want.

Temporary Halloween Stores in Arizona
Spirit Halloween Stores and Halloween Express are two chain stores which serve Arizona every Autumn
Unlike year-round costume stores, the temporary Halloween superstores pop up into vacant shops only for September and October each year. And when November comes? They pack up and leave!
The most popular temporary Halloween store in Arizona is Spirit Halloween, a chain of temporary stores with several dozen AZ locations (and thousands of customers) every year. Halloween Express is also another good brand of seasonal store which opens locations each year in Arizona.
Spirit Halloween website: Spirit's official year-round website is www.spirithalloween.com. Stores begin to open in Arizona by early September...and that's a good time to check the "store locator" page of Spirit's website. They make additions to the list as stores open, sometimes, so you can try checking 2 or 3 times if you don't find a temporary store located near you. Also, you may purchase costumes and decorations for any holiday via their website, even when their local seasonal stores aren't in operation. Off-season and right before the Halloween rush (when they're getting rid of last year's costumes that they won't be selling this year) are good times to get a bargain.
Halloween Express is another chain of temporary stores serving Arizona each fall. Although they have fewer stores than Spirit Halloween, it's possible that one of their locations may be closer to you. Last year, Halloween Express had stores in Tucson, Oro Valley and Phoenix. You may check for this year's stores during September and October at the
